Club professionals, board members and tribal council representatives are encouraged to attend the Native American Clubs workshop at Boys & Girls Clubs of America's National Conference. Topics to be discussed include funding opportunities, enhancing Club programming for Native American communities, and an update on the results of the NANAC/NCAI Youth Survey. Additionally, the Service to Native American Youth Award will be presented to an outstanding Club leader. Participants must register in advance through the BGCA National Conference website*.

A workshop for Native Clubs took place prior to the opening of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 102nd National Conference in San Francisco, CA. Club professionals, board members and tribal council representatives met to discuss creating new Clubs, sustaining existing Clubs, and enhancing Club programming for Native American communities. A Community Youth Organization Implementation training was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Seattle, WA. Community representatives, tribal leaders, Boys & Girls Club staff, and TDHEs attended. Training on the process of starting a local Boys & Girls Club was offered. Other youth organizations invited to share information include: Boys Scouts, Police Athletic/Activities Leagues, UNITY, and the National Indian Youth Leadership Project.

eminole Tribe of Florida Hosts Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Fourth Native American Summit

The 2007 Native American Summit, held in Hollywood, Florida was a resounding success, bringing together 200 individuals from over 50 Tribal communities. Held February 13-15 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, the event marked the first time the Summit was held on Native American lands. The conference began with a Grand Entry of Nations and included speakers such as Roxanne Spillett, Boys & Girls Clubs of America; Leo Nolan, Indian Health Service; Eugenia Tyner-Dawson, U.S. Department of Justice, and President Joe Shirley, Jr. of the Navajo Nation.
